A mad hatter’s tea party marked the opening of a magical Alice in Wonderland themed library at a primary school.

Pupils at Morden Primary School in London Road welcomed the deputy mayor of Merton, Councillor John Sargeant, to the unveiling of their new library on Friday.

Children dressed up as characters from Lewis Carroll’s much-loved wacky tale for the occasion.

Headteacher Peta Blow said: "It is the best library in the UK and possibly the world."

Staff at the school refashioned the library to encourage children to love reading and increase their opportunities to pick up a good book.

The project was completed with the help of members of the school community, including parents, governors, community volunteers and staff who worked for two months.
