Police have released CCTV images of a man wanted in connection with a violent unprovoked assault on a man returning home from a night out.

A 23-year-old man was nearing the O2 shop with a group of friends, in The Broadway, Wimbledon, when he was punched in the face and knocked to the ground.

Police believe the attacker then fled the scene in a taxi, leaving the young man with a broken nose and serious break to his ankle.

London Ambulance Service was called to the scene and the man was taken to hospital, where surgeons inserted a permanent titanium plate in his ankle.

He has now left hospital.

The incident happened at about 3.30am on Saturday, March 16.

The attacker is described as white, aged 24 to 25, 6ft 3ins tall and of stocky build.

He had short blond hair, a receding hairline and was wearing a dark coloured T-shirt and blue jeans.
