A Merton UKIP candidate has been suspended by the party after “extreme racist views” were posted on his Twitter feed.

A series of tweets posted on Andre Lampitt’s Twitter branded Islam as ‘evil’, claimed Ed Miliband is ‘not British’ and that he wanted Africans to ‘kill themselves off’.

UKIP's 2014 election broadcast features Andre Lampitt, a Merton Council election candidate, in a hard hat. The video also features current Merton councillor Suzanne Evans, who defected from the Conservatives last year. (YouTube)

Mr Lampitt, a Zimbabwean decorator, featured in UKIP’s election broadcast, on Wednesday, in which he wore a builder’s hat and complained that ‘lads from Eastern Europe’ were undercutting him.

Nigel Farage, leader of UKIP, has launched an investigation into the incident and said he was ‘very angry’.

A UKIP spokesman said: "We are deeply shocked that Mr Lampitt has expressed such repellent views.

"His membership of the party has been suspended immediately pending a full disciplinary process."

Mr Lampitt is featured in the party's 2014 party political broadcast, ahead of the European elections and local council elections on May 22.

He is the second speaker in the video. The first speaker is Councillor Suzanne Evans, who defected to the party from the Conservatives last year and is filmed outside Wimbledon's Centre Court Shopping Centre.

This is hilarious. A man from Africa complaining about Europeans taking his job. How about Nigel Farage giving a job to a British person rather than his German wife? While we're at it where did the 7-Up nickname come from? Would anyone like to share? These people have a very strange attitude to women as well as 'foreigners'.

This is disgraceful. Not what he's alleged to have said (which a large majority of us probably agree with), but the fact that it may disenfranchise myself and many others if we have no UKIP candidate to vote for. Still, the more the media attempt to smear them with these stupid non-stories, the more determined I am to vote UKIP.......

I've often thought that UKIP voters were just a bunch of racist bigots so thanks for clearing that up and confirming it for me.
Ih the Country is 'full' as UKIP keep telling us maybe Mr Lampitt should jog on back to Zimbabwe where he came from!!

Yep, I'm white Anglo Saxon so that automatically makes me a racist by birth, so I may as well be proud of that. Accusing people of racism is the first refuge of those who seek to destroy freedom of speech, so Foxtrot Oscar.

Mr Lampitt and the pond life he associates with are free to say what they like even if it is racist. It's parties like the BNP and UKIP that are against freedom of expression. Supporting someone who says 'Islam is evil' whilst claiming to support freedom of speech just about sums up the hypocrisy of UKIP.
