Comedian and actor Eddie Izzard stopped off in Morden today, as he tours the city ahead of next months European and local elections.

The campaigner attended a Labour activist meeting to meet volunteers, residents and traders at The Hub, in Bishopsford Road, between 1pm and 2pm this afternoon.

Just back from a weekend gig in Spain, he said he is "very positive" about Europe and would like others to embrace the opportunities presented by being a part of the European Union as he has done.

He said people should vote Labour because "they care about people and will always be doing the best job that we can" and because they've "got answers" for the affordable housing crisis in London.

His London tour is in preparation for his own political career, which he intends to launch when he stands for mayor in the 2020 elections.

Mr Izzard, who lives in West London, said: "I have spent years putting my career together. I have just done a film with Dustin Hoffman and Kathy Bates.

"It’s at a very interesting place, I need these years to close down a career I have spent so long putting together.

"I’m about business and my business I hope can inspire other people."
