A young man was taken to hospital with neck, chest and back pain after a collision in Morden this morning.

The busy Martin Way was partially closed while the emergency services dealt with the collision which happened at about 9am.

A 23-year-old man was rushed to hospital with neck, chest and back pain after a collision at the junction of Springfield Avenue this morning.

An witness said Martin Way had been closed after the collision and emergency services were on the scene.

Traffic in the area was reported to be slow after the accident on the B286 Martin Way at Springfield Avenue which was partially blocked.

A grey Renault Megane was seen to have sustained extensive damage at the scene.

Mark Patterson, who cycled past the scene, said: “Martin Way is closed completely.
“There are three fire engines and a lot of police.

“It appears to be a car has gone into the back of a lorry and underneath.”

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said officers were called at 9.03am today, and were still on the scene dealing with the incident at 10.45am.

A spokesman from the London Ambulance Service said a 23-year-old man was taken to St George’s Hospital with neck, back and chest pain.

The spokesman said: “We were called to Martin Way at the junction of Springfield Avenue just before 9.10am to reports of a road traffic collision.

“We sent an ambulance and a car.”
