A new play area in memory of a Wimbledon toddler who died suddenly from an undiagnosed heart defect will be unveiled this weekend.

Deen City Farm in Windsor Avenue, Merton Abbey, will open the area on Saturday, April 12, complete with farm themed equipment which will be dedicated to the memory of three-year-old Oscar Ashton.

The youngster was a frequent visitor to Deen City with his family, who have helped to raise £10,000 so that an underused section of the farm can be transformed into a fun and educational area for under-fives.

"Oscar loved visiting Deen City Farm and we want to give other children another reason to come and enjoy this super local attraction," Oscar’s parents James Ashton and Viveka Alvestrand said in a statement.

Deen City Farm manager Simon Lynn said: "The new play area will be a fantastic addition to the farm and is a fitting tribute to Oscar.

"We hope it will encourage even more families to visit and take part in the many activities that we run throughout the year."

Oscar’s family, of Ridley Road, Wimbledon, will be at the opening ceremony from 1pm which will have refreshments and a chance to meet some of the farm’s animal residents.

Little Oscar died in December 2012 from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, an undetected heart condition that prematurely thickens the heart wall.
