A teenage girl who died after being hit by a lorry helped eight people by donating them her organs.

Claudia Jennifer Landa, 17, was knocked down in Carshalton Road, at the junction with Goat Road, Mitcham, on Wednesday, April 2.

The former Carshalton High School for Girls pupil from Hackbridge, Sutton, was on her way home from Richmond upon Thames College when the accident happened.

Police were called to the scene at 4.20pm and she was airlifted to hospital, but died on Friday.

Claudia's mother, Naomi Martin, said eight people had benefited from organ donations by Saturday evening.

Tributes to Claudia, known as 'Cloud' to friends, have been flooding in from friends and members of the community.

Rebecca Mutsatsa, a close friend from Carshalton High School for Girls, said: "Claudia was such a good friend to me and we had some amazingly hilarious times.

"We met in high school although we only became close in the last two years, I'm so glad I got to share the experiences I did with her.

"She was probably the funniest person I know and words cannot describe how much she meant to me and so many others.

"She was such a unique person and I do not use those words lightly. I can honestly say that I've never met anyone like her.

"She was funny, outgoing, didn't care what people thought of her and she had the craziest hair."

Ieva Kulikauskaite, who also met Claudia at school, said: "I've known Claudia since Year 7. Over the years she has been a very good friend not only to me, but to many others.

"We could all count on her to make us laugh in every and any type of situation.

"When I found out the news of her death I was frantic - how could a person I've known for 6 years be said to be gone, I refused to believe it at first. I'm going to miss her, I already do.

"I spoke to her last week as it was her birthday...never did I think that would be the last time I spoke to her.

"My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends, Claudia will always be alive in spirit and she will always stay in our hearts."

Claudia celebrated her 17th birthday a week before the accident.
