Wildflowers, hawthorn and cherry plum were planted at a Mitcham allotment in a bid to spruce it up.
Passers-by joined dozens of volunteers at the Tamworth Farm Allotment in London Road on Saturday, March 8, to bed in a broad range of plants at a community planting day.
Tamworth Farm Allotment committee member Pete Lawrence took his 19 month old son Senan to help out.
Mr Lawrence said: "He fell in a puddle and did a bit of digging, but he enjoyed it.
"It was really good to have that mix of people coming to help out."
Up to 30 volunteers, including plot-holders, nearby residents and people who saw what they were doing and stopped to help, worked hard to plant hedgerows and wildflowers to help make the area more attractive, create animal habitats and improve security at the allotment.
Mr Lawrence said the allotment suffers from regular break-ins and vandalism and it is hoped improved hedges around the footpath will protect it.
Merton Council and the Woodland Trust provided the plants, and the group was supported by Sustainable Merton and the North Mitcham Parks Friends Group.
