Plans for a new free primary school intended to serve children and families in both Kingston and Merton may be moving away from the borough.

But Morden based Christian group Chapel St who already run four free schools in the country, are still adamant that the non-faith school with Christian values will open in six months time despite having no site.

However Councillor David Ryder-Mills, lead member for schools and continuing education, said: “I understand that they have seen great difficulty in securing a building in the borough.

“I would still be happy to work with them should a site that they find be close enough to be relevant to our children.”

The site for Park Community School was originally rumoured to be the old BBC sports ground in Motspur Park, which is in the borough.

But a Chapel St spokeswoman said there were three sites being considered and could not say whether any of these were in the borough.

Park Community School, when it opens, will take 60 primary school children in its first year.
