A contractor is being sought to redevelop the controversial Colliers Wood tower.
The long-awaited development of the former Brown & Root tower could be decided next month after Criterion Capital put out tenders for 'construction work packages' for contractors.
The proposals will be assessed next month, and according to Merton Council documents, a construction team is set to be in place by April.
It is anticipated work could take 18 months and be completed in autumn 2015. Promised works at the end of last year did not materialise after a partnership between housing developers and Criterion Capital broke down last summer.
Planning permission to develop the site was granted in 2003, but stalled on numerous occasions before Criterion Capital became involved in the scheme two years ago.
The tower has a long history of controversy.
It was voted London’s Ugliest Building in a BBC poll, dubbed an eyesore by locals and endured complex planning proposals.
However, in 2011 it became part of the £70m Mayor’s Regeneration Fund, with Colliers Wood receiving a project award of more than £2m.
