Neighbours have expressed their shock that a man was found stabbed on a busy South Wimbledon road.

The Metropolitan Police helicopter was deployed to search for a suspect after a man in his 30s was stabbed in Nelson Road on Tuesday, January 21.

One man was arrested by officers on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and attempted robbery.

Residents of Quicks Road, on the junction where the man was found bleeding by officers, said they saw patrol cars and Metropolitan Police officers at the scene and noticed the helicopter circling overhead.

Marcelle Bracq-Moreira, director of Maha's Deli in Quicks Road, said: "It just doesn't happen around here.

"It must have been around 7.30pm when we were having dinner - it's quite scary.

"We have a lot of drunk and disorderly behaviour but I have never seen anything violent."

Another resident, who did not want to be named, said: "It's very shocking, it brings it home.

"I hope the man is ok."

The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was rushed to hospital where his condition is said to be stable.
