With bells tinkling and handkerchiefs fluttering the Greensleeves Morris Men jigged through Wimbledon Village bringing a traditional air to Boxing Day celebrations.

Beginning at Alexander House Care Home, the group, the London longest established Morris group, moved to Wimbledon Village High Street and on to the Hand in Hand and Crooked Billet pubs.

Spectators were treated to both a sequence of dances and a traditional Mummers play.

Andrew Ford, landlord of the Hand in Hand, said: “We had a big crowd. The weather helped enormously. People loved it; everyone left happy with a smile on their face.

“Greensleeves performing here is a Christmas tradition and looked forward to by our customers.”

The troupe is holding two open days to entice new members.

The Friday open evenings will be held on January 3 and 10 from 8pm to 10pm at South Wimbledon Community Centre, 78 Victory Road, Wimbledon.
