Multi-million facelift begins at SW19
Construction has begun on the multi-million pound revamp of the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
The usually leafy home of tennis is currently looking more like a quarry as work begins across the 42 acres of SW19.
It is part of the Master Plan which will eventually see a new retractable roof over Court number 1 by 2019.
Following the announcement in April, the diggers and cranes have began excavating Courts 14 and 15.
Johnny Perkins, a spokesman for the AELTC, said: "It's an exciting time at the club seeing the changes taking place. The work going on at the moment is all for the press really.
We are giving photographers more room behind the courts, but that takes a lot of work. It will still be going on by the time of next year's tournament."
The theme of the re design is 'Tennis in an English Garden’, which aims to develop "the finest setting and facilities for the entertainment and enjoyment of all visitors."
