Freshly picked produce was displayed and enjoyed by hundreds at an event in Wimbledon opened by the mayor of Merton.
The aim of the event on Saturday at St. Mark’s Church garden, was to make use of fruit grown in the borough rather than it be wasted after falling from trees.
Councillor Krystal Miller, the mayor of Merton, visited all the stalls run by volunteers from charity Abundance Wimbledon selling items such as fruit plants, apple pies and honey while visitors enjoyed music by the International Ukelele Orchestra.
Joyce Pountain, event co-ordinator, said: "We had an excellent day with so many people helping to make it such a success."
The event, now in its third year, has collected more than two and a half tonnes of fruit which has then been made into jams, chutneys or baked; 800 kilos of which has been sent to local charities.
