MP for Mitcham and Morden calls on businesses to give unemployed work experience
There are currently more than 2,500 people unemployed in Mitcham and Morden with 500 of those under the age of 24.
Siobhain McDonagh will be holding a business breakfast on October 15 at the civic centre in Morden at 10am to launch her 2014 work experience placement scheme.
The event will give employers the chance to find out more about taking on a work experience student and how it could benefit their business.
Miss McDonagh said: "Those of us who were brought up in the 80s know what it is like to have a generation out of work.
"It’s a problem for them but also for the wider community.
"They have nothing to do and feel no hope.
"This scheme will help individuals, their communities and businesses."
The scheme is set to start in January 2014 for 12 weeks and will be unpaid.
