Jo Brand and Matthew Kelly set to star in New Wimbledon's Theatre's panto production of Aladdin
Panto season officially arrived in Wimbledon this week as Jo Brand and Matthew Kelly gathered to announce this year’s production of Aladdin, hosted by the New Wimbledon’s Theatre.
The BAFTA winning comedienne, writer and actress will be making her pantomime debut as the Genie of the Ring, while Olivier Award winning actor and television presenter Matthew Kelly will play Widow Twanky.
In a twist to the original tale, which was set in Arabia, this production will take place in China with former Britain's Got Talent street dance troupe Flawless set to star as the Peking Police Force.
West End Theatre stars Oliver Thornton and David Bedella will star as Aladdin and evil sorcerer Abanazar respectively.
On her pantomime stage debut Jo Brand said: "I’m very much looking forward to doing my first panto, although I would have preferred Cinderella because I realise that I am a role model for many glamorous young women".
Aladdin will be showing at the New Wimbledon Theatre from Friday, December 6, to Sunday, January 12, 2014.
