Trees that were home to bats in a green space due to be sold on by Kingston Council have been chopped down.
Developers are alleged to have moved in on the land at the end of Rookwood Avenue, off Burlington Road in Merton, and began cutting down the overgrown forestry last Friday.
Rookwood Avenue resident Phil Hogarth said: “I am very annoyed because there is a lot of wildlife there.”
The site is rumoured to become a car park or garage.
The sale is expected to be completed by August 28.

A Merton Council spokeswoman said: “There are restrictions on the land. The trees do have restrictions. If any of the trees have been cut then we would take enforcement action. We are investigating this.”
A spokesman from Kingston Council said the name of the buyer could not be released until the deal had gone through.
He said he did not know who had cut the trees down but it was not the council.
