Free job training schemes will be rolled out across Merton this autumn to help offset a rise in unemployment.

Merton Priory Homes will be running five separate training courses in construction, care skills, job support for young people and how to start your own business, including two courses specifically for 16 to 25 year olds.

Wayne Hainsworth, managing director at Merton Priory Homes, said: "We’ve already completed a successful summer training programme with our contractors Keepmoat which is helping its participants gain sought after apprenticeships in the construction industry.

"Whether you need a job, want to learn new skills or are looking for a fresh start, we’ve developed a variety of free training scheme to help meet the number of different training needs in the borough."

All autumn courses are free to Merton residents and range from Start Your Own Business training to construction and care skills and job support for young people aged 16-25.

An information event will take place Monday, September 2, at Merton Training & Employment Centre on 21 Lombard Road, SW19 3TZ from 2 to 6pm.
