Police officers in Merton will now be able to Taser their suspects after controversial new response units went live last week.
The Metropolitan Police is currently rolling out an additional 480 Tasers across the capital with the aim of having 40 officers trained in their use in every borough.
Each borough will have two 24 hour Taser response units, but only four officers will carry a Taser at any one time in each borough.
Police officers in 20 boroughs have already been trained with teams in Merton, Camden, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Lambeth the latest to have Taser teams introduced.
Residents are invited to attend the next meeting of Merton’s Community Policing Partnership when they will be given an update on policing and crime in Merton from the Borough Commander, Detective Chief Superintendent Darren Williams, and a presentation from the Metropolitan Police Service Taser Team.
The meeting will take place at the Civic Centre in Morden on May 14 from 7 to 9pm.
