The victim fell down the stairs at Wimbledon station last night.
A pensioner was rushed to hospital last night after falling down a flight of stairs.
The accident happened toward the end of the rush hour commute at Wimbledon underground station.
Ambulance crews were called to the station at about 6.45pm where they treated a 70-year-old man for a head injury.
An eyewitness said: “The man was lying on the steps and there was blood around him.
"He was lying on his side and was conscious but he didn’t look in a good way.
“Loads of people getting off the tube and heading for the stairs but there were people around him making sure he was OK.
“I just hope he’s alright – it was good to see people helping him.”
He was taken to the major trauma centre at St George's Hospital.
