Pubs prepare for world record Irish dance attempt
10:03am Wednesday 6th March 2013 in News By Omar Oakes
O'Neill's are hoping customers will help them break the world record for biggest Irish dance next week
An Irish pub chain will try to enter the record books for holding the most people doing a jig at the same time.
At 8pm on Thursday, March 14, O’Neill’s in The Broadway, Wimbledon, will join its 48 sister pubs in an attempt to beat the current Guineess World Record for the most people Irish dancing at the same time.
The current record, set in 2007, saw 10,036 people doing the jib at the Dublin Irish Festival in Ohio, USA.
Anyone who wants to help beat that record should arrive at the pub from 7pm, ready to begin at 8pm and be prepared to dance for five minutes.
Riki Frondi, manager at O’Neill’s Wimbledon, said: “Every year we look at ways to celebrate our favourite event, St Patrick’s Day, while also trying to give something back to the local community.
“This year, which is the fourth year of O’Neill’s’ Join the Jig events, sees our first ever world record attempt and we really want the people of Wimbledon to join us to help smash the world record and have great fun at the same time.
“As well as great craic, we’ll be raising money during the event by selling our legendary St Patrick’s day hats with all proceeds going to the Cash For Kids charity.”
