Vulnerable people given transport training by charity
1:00pm Saturday 16th February 2013 in News By Lauren May, Chief Reporter
Children and adults with learning difficulties took part in a Merton charity's first ever ‘Bus Day’ this week to help prepare them for independent travel.
Merton Mencap launched their ‘Bus Days’ on Tuesday as part of a monthly free travel training programme for children and adults with special needs.
The free service, set up by TFL in partnership with Merton Bus Garage, Merton Council road safety officers and a team of Safer Transport police officers, will allow passengers to experience independent travel in a safe environment to help build confidence to travel alone.
Merton Bus Days will run on the second Tuesday of every month from February 13 with two sessions - one at 10.30 to 12 and from 12.45 to 2pm.
The bus will leave and return to the S1 bus stand at Cricket Green, Mitcham.
