South West Thames Institute for Renal Research looks to hit £5m mark
The South West Thames Institute for Renal Research, based at St Helier Hospital, is celebrating its 15th anniversary.
The unit is supported by the South West Thames Kidney Fund charity which funds their vital research.
Over the last 15 years they have raised over £4.8million and now they are aiming to beat the £5million mark by holding a celebration dinner at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
The Institute’s Senior Scientist, Dr Mark Dockrell, said: "We would like to invite local people, tennis lovers and absolutely everyone who wants to raise funds to tackle kidney disease, to this wonderful event.
"Kidney disease is very difficult to live with, it can be fatal, and unfortunately, it's becoming increasingly common. Currently there is no cure of chronic kidney disease. It's therefore very important that we keep advancing and improving the way we treat the illness, and the only way to do that is through research.”
The dinner will take place 7pm on April 13 to 11.30pm and costs £70 per person. For a small extra cost, dinner guests can also experience the Wimbledon Tennis Museum and a tour ending in Centre Court.
