'Selfless' young footballers at The Priory School, Wimbledon are Merton Borough champions
12:30pm Friday 8th February 2013 in News By Omar Oakes
Merton’s young football champions drew praise after they came top of a borough-wide cup competition for schools.
The Priory, in Queen’s Road, Wimbledon, won the under-11 Merton Borough championships last year, when they beat New Malden’s Sacred Heart 3-2 in the final.
This morning they were presented with their trophy by Wimbledon’s MP, Stephen Hammond.
Simon Parmiter, their school coach, said: “We are so proud of our team. Throughout the finals and qualifying competition, they maintained such a high level of football.
“They were disciplined and played selflessly for each other. So many people commented on their positive play and impeccable behaviour. Well done boys.”
The team will now go on to represent Merton at the London Mini-Games next month, where they will compete with other schools from across the capital.
