More than 70 people braved the wind and rain this weekend by sleeping rough in support of a homeless charity.

The Sleep Easy event saw dozens of people sleep rough in Wimbledon and Kingston to raise funds for the YMCA'S work in both boroughs.

A total of £6,000 has so far been raised by the event which was opened in Wimbledon on Saturday by Deputy Mayor Councillor John Bowcott.

Debbie Camp, Director of Corporate Services at YMCA LSW, said of the event: "It was the first year that we’ve had rain which made it a very different experience to past events.

"Everyone was a bit damp and spent more time than usual indoors undercover but spirits were high and we are so grateful to everyone who took part and braved the conditions."

The YMCA south west London house over 400 people a year working with them and giving them the support to move forward.
