Sixty years of scouts invited to grand reopening
Sea scouts old and new have been invited to a grand reopening of its historic headquarters in Mitcham.
The sixth/12th Mitcham Sea Scout Group, based in Glebe Court, has spent last year fundraising and refurbishing its scout hall and will officially reopen later this month.
The headquarters has been home to the sixth and 12 troops since 1953, before they mereged in the 1970s.
The renovation work was funded by fundraising, a National Lottery grant, and a loan from the Wimbledon and Wandle scout district group.
Steven Little, a scout leader, said: “We have done a lot of fundraising and have obtained various grants to enable us to provide our latest members with a new and improved hall.
“We are looking to invite back any old members and all currently members to the event.”
"The relaunch is to celebrate all the work that has been undertaken and to launch the hall as a Scout Headquarters that is available for use as community facility."
The grand reopening takes place on Saturday, January 26 at 2pm, and will be launched by the mayor of Merton, Councillor David Williams.
