UPDATE: Power restored after eight hour black out UPDATE: Power restored after eight hour black out

Power has been restored to hundreds of businesses and homes in Wimbledon after two unrelated electrical faults caused an eight hour power cut.

A total of 2,204 customers in The Broadway and Worple Road area were cut off just after 6am this morning following an electrical fault on an underground cable.

Power was restored within 20 minutes to all but 245 premises, 220 of which had to wait nearly six hours before their power was restored at 11.50am.

The remaining unlucky 25 premises were without power for eight hours before their supply was restored at 2.10pm.

It is the second power cut to affect the area in less than a month after a similar interruption on December 16.
