Houses are getting more expensive in Merton, but at a lower rate than the rest of London.

The average price of a home in Merton is £349,000, according to latest figures from the Land Registry for November 2012 compared to November 2011.

The average home in the capital is now worth £365,000, ranging from £215,000 in Barking & Dagenham to £1.1m in Kensington & Chelsea.

Houses prices in London rose by seven per cent overall, but in Merton the annual changed was only 3.7 per cent - compared to 9 per cent in Wandsworth, 2.7 per cent in Sutton and 1.9 per cent in Kingston-upon-Thames.

Prices fell in the north of England, while the national average increase was 1.1 per cent, with average prices at £161,000.

Last year it was revealed a former home of Henry VIII, The Old Rectory, was placed on sale for £26m in Wimbledon Park.
