Gospel singer impresses dragons to win business competition

A budding entrepreneur and gospel singer has been crowned the winner of a dragon’s den style business competition.

Charity Uzoukwu, from Mitcham, was named the winner of Social Enterprise Merton’s Dragon’s Den event which was held at the Vestry Hall in Mitcham on December 15.

Members pitched their business ideas to a panel of dragon’s which included Councillor Stephen Alambritis, leader of Merton Council, Louise Thomson of NatWest, Management consultant Nargis Rahman, private investor David Leed and Sabes Sugunasabesan who works in the voluntary sector.

Ms Uzoukwu won judges over with her idea to turn her gift for writing Gospel songs into a business.

Carol Warren, director of Social Enterprise Merton, which supports local businesses and budding entrepreneurs, said: "We believe everyone should have the opportunity to test their business idea in a supportive environment and that is what they get at Enterprise Club Merton.

"We are privileged to have supported people while they turn their dreams of starting a business into a reality".

"We are also extremely grateful for the support of The Dragons and our volunteers."
