A waiting room at a train platform has been closed for good after being used as “a toilet”.

A sign was put up last week at Motspur Park station in West Barnes, near Raynes Park and New Malden, by a staff member of South West Trains, the rail operator.

It reads: “Please note that due to repeated use as a toilet the waiting room is now permanently closed.”

Christopher Bushe, who took this photograph of the sign, questioned why this particular station was being blighted by public urination.

He said: “Motspur Park is not exactly ablaze with night life unless you fancy a night out in the Earl Beatty pub next to the station, where one now has to pay for parking.

“Indeed the only real trouble in this area over the last 10 years has been graffiti, and even that seems to have died a death this last few years.”
