The most read story on the Wimbledon Guardian website in 2012 was about a change of management at an all you can eat restaurant in Wimbledon.

A total of 4,433 people viewed the story which marked the re branding of Jimmy Spices to Jimmy’s World Bar and Grill, in Wimbledon Broadway, in April.

The restaurant was fined £10,000 by Wimbledon Magistrates Court after Merton Council’s environmental health officers prosecuted the owners for food hygiene offences dating back to March 2011.

Other stories which received the most hits include a road traffic collision between a van and a car in which a 35-year-old man was killed, plans to bring AFC Wimbledon to Colliers Wood and the tragic discovery of the body of 12-year-old Tia Sharp in August.

But the top five stories which stirred up the most discussion between Merton residents were all about AFC Wimbledon, their potential plans to move back into Plough Lane and coverage of their grudge match against rivals MK Dons.

MK Dons was created in 2003 by moving Wimbledon FC 65 miles north to the Buckinghamshire town, but the team have continued to use the Dons name angering Wimbledon fans who formedAFC Wimbledon in the aftermath of the move.

The two teams met earlier this month in a historic FA cup clash which saw MK Dons win 2-1.
