A father-of-two has been fundraising so much for charity it has made him blue in the face.

Matthew Wood, 38, from Wallington, has been driving, working and even attended board meetings in a shiny blue morph suit.

The technical director for Millwood Servicing Ltd, a fire safety engineering company in Wallington, has been wearing the suit for 16 hours a day for an entire month to raise awareness for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The charity, which funds research into diabetes, is particularly close to Mr Wood’s heart after his nephew Joseph Bishop, 11, was diagnosed with type one diabetes.

This is the last week of Mr Wood’s challenge and he said he is looking forward to the end of the week.

He said: "It has been a good journey and it’s raised over £1,000 so I’m glad I have done it.

"It has its draw backs and it has its restrictions. It is quite uncomfortable.Shoes are unbearable but I can’t do anything about it.

"It covers 95 per cent of my body - for women it would be like wearing tights all over your body.

"Most people think I’m trying to promote a product. The most ironic thing that happens is when I get on the tube they don’t look at me.

"It is for a good cause and I’m glad I’m doing it.

"Diabetes is a 24 hour life-affecting disease. Everything Joseph does has to be checked - for example if he fancies a biscuit.

"It is just heart wrenching. Diabetes is full time all the time.

"Over the last 25 days I have learnt so much about it. I have the most deepest sympathy for people with it."

If you were wondering how he went to the toilet, Mr Wood explained his suit was rather like a wetsuit with a zip at the back.
