A gang who targeted cash in transit vehicles have been handed a combined total of almost 30 years in prison.

The group of six were sentenced at Harrow Crown Court on Monday for a range of offences including conspiracy to rob cash in transit custodian and conspiracy to conceal, disguise, convert, transfer or remove criminal property, following an investigation by the Met Police Flying Squad into nine robberies and one attempted robbery.

Police identified James Dawson, 28, Melrose Avenue, Willesden as being involved in eight of the attacks, and on April 5 Dawson and Sohail Amin, 19, of Huron Road, Balham were arrested in Bristol after robbing a Post Office delivery centre.

Dawson was sentenced to six and half years having pleaded guilty of conspiracy to rob cash in transit custodian and conspiracy to conceal, disguise, convert, transfer or remove criminal property namely dye stained cash.

Amin, 19, of Huron Road, Balham was sentenced to six years having pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob cash in transit custodian.

Fellow gang members include Aaron Jones, 27, of Hazelmere Road, Mitcham, who was sentenced to seven years having pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob cash in transit custodians and two counts of possession with intent to supply which was discovered upon his arrest.

Aaron Simmonds, 29 of Gleneldon Road, Streatham was sentenced to six years having pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob cash in transit custodians.

Timothy Dawson, 19, Brookdale Road, Lewisham was sentenced to a 12 months community order and 100 hrs community order for conspiracy to conceal, disguise, convert, transfer or remove criminal property and Remone Williams, 22, of Loughborough Park, Brixton was sentenced to three and half years for conspiracy to rob cash in transit custodians and a non residential burglary during the August riots.

Detective Constable John Baker, from the Flying Squad based at Finchley, said: "The Flying Squad is committed to bringing to justice all gang members involved in serious organised crime and will utilise all techniques and resources in whatever police area to do so."
