An award-winning drama about Chronicles of Narnia author CS Lewis’s love and loss is coming to Croydon.

Shadowlands, which won the Evening Standard Drama Award and was Tony-nominated when it made its debut in 1990, is at Fairfield Halls from April 7 to 9.

It examines the unlikely love between restrained Oxford don Lewis (played by Humans and The Iron Lady’s Stephen Boxer) and the contrasting personality of American poet Joy Davidman (Amanda Ryan, The Forsyte Saga and Shameless), and the test of Lewis’s faith when Joy is diagnosed with cancer.

Emotional and uplifting, a film version was made in 1993 directed by Richard Attenborough starring Anthony Hopkins and won the Best British Film Bafta.

Tickets cost from £19.50. Go to Fairfield.co.uk or call 020 8688 9291.
