"Are you ready for an adventure", comes the cry at the start of Milton Jones's Temple of Daft show at Fairfield Halls.

Certainly, this is a grand departure for Jones, famed for his appearances on TV programmes such as Mock the Week, and BBC Radio 4's The Very World of Milton Jones. The king of one-liners sets off on a more expansive caper (such as it is) that takes in planes, trains and automobiles.

There's also a rare performance of flag-based humour from Jones's character, Sir Randolph Digby Jones, at the start of the gig, which takes on geopolitically-heavyweight topics such as the Scottish independence vote - all in a very gentle way of course.

Obviously though, the one-line gag is still the comic's stock trade - as jokes such as "my archaeological career is in ruins" will attest - but it's a bold and intruiging show that's warmly received by the Croydon faithful.

Milton Jones performed at Fairfield Halls on Thursday March 12.

Jones will perform at the Hammersmith Apollo, 45 Queen Caroline Street, Hammersmith, on May 1, at 7pm. Tickets cost £28.25. For more information, visit eventim.co.uk
