A youth theatre group will take on Peer Gynt, directed by Bill Compton, at Hampton Hill Playhouse.

Youth Action Theatre is rehearsing for the play, which will see more than 50 cast members take to the stage.

The Norwegian fairytale, the most widely performed of all Norwegian plays, was described as the story of a life based on procrastination and avoidance.

It blends folkloric fantasy with unsentimental realism.

In YAT’s adaptation, Henrik Ibsen’s classic is revisited with the use of contemporary metaphors and language.

The play follows Peer Gynt through his entire life, from delinquent youth to wealthy and bitter old man, as he encounters everything from trolls to his greatest love, but one constant persists: his tragic determination to remain true to himself.
