Many of us can't live without our phone, so what do we do if it dies or breaks down?

Envirofone has compiled a list of the major phone issues people run into and how to help counteract them, as follows:

Water damage

If your phone is not immune to water and one day you accidentally send your phone hurtling into a watery grave there is still time to save it.

Once recovered from the water it's important to dry it out, being careful not to shake or move the phone.

Put the phone in a sandwich bag filled with either rice or silica and leave for at least 72 hours. The longer you can resist checking to see if it works, the better.

Cracked screen

Baking soda could be your solution for a small crack on the screen of your phone.

Many people swear that making a paste from two parts baking soda to one part water can help fix the screen together for a short-term solution. Simply, make a thick paste and then use a cloth to rub it in.

Poor battery life

If you are constantly having to charge your phone there are ways to save the battery.

Make sure you dim the screen brightness or use auto brightness as your smartphone's large, colourful display, is the battery's mortal enemy.

Storage

If it’s memory you’re short of on your iPhone, and you cannot bare to cut down on anymore pictures, apps or messages this weird trick might work for you, or it might not.

Head to ‘Settings’ and make a note of how much storage you have. Then, head to the iTunes Store app and find a film to rent that takes up more storage space than you currently have. Proceed like you would if you were going to rent the film (don't worry, you won't actually end up renting it) and dismiss the pop-up informing you that there's not enough space to download the movie. Now, head back and check your storage space and - apparently - you should see a difference of a few hundred megabytes, possibly more.

The risk might be that you end up getting charged for a movie, but if you contact Apple immediately afterwards and explain that it was an accidental rental, you should get a refund.

So if you need to resurrect your phone from the dead this Halloween then fear not!
