Hordes of sci-fi geeks, gamers, TV and film addicts and comic book fans descended on east London for the second MCM London Comic Con of 2015.

The event proved to be a record-breaker, with more than 130,000 people passing through the gates at ExCel London during the three days.

A week before Halloween, the event gave visitors an excuse to dress up early – and there was an abundance of cosplayers wearing elaborate costumes based on their favourite characters from the big screen, small screen and pages of comic books and novels.

The convention provided a chance for fans to get up close to cast and crew from hit shows and movies, with panels and Q&As featuring Sherlock, Doctor Who, Con Man, Librarians, The Walking Dead, Humans and Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands.

These were a great chance to learn snippets of news, such as how Maisie Williams will return in the current series of Doctor Who and how the Time Lord could one day be a woman. We also learned the name of the Sherlock episode set in Victorian London will be called The Abominable Bride and will be broadcast on New Year's Day.

Other special guests meeting fans included stars of Arrow, The Flash, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and Under The Dome.

If you've watched something on Amazon, Netflix or Sky over the past couple of years, there was probably someone from it at Comic Con.

As the event's name suggests, comic book fans were well catered for, with the Comic Village home to more than 200 artists and writers displaying their work.

Gamers were well looked after too, with various publishers showing off new and upcoming games such as Dark Souls 3 and Assassin's Creed Syndicate.

In the eSports Arena crowds were cheering like mad watching other people play games competitively.

With more people attending Comic Con than were at both the Man United v Man City and Sunderland v Newcastle football matches, it's another clear sign that so-called nerd culture is now at the forefront of popular entertainment. A nerd like me has mixed feelings about this but, anyway ... the next MCM London Comic Con takes place at ExCel from May 27 to 29.
