Dangerous desires, family secrets and political intrigues will twist through every moment of a daring choreographic spectacular screened in Prestatyn and Rhyl this autumn.

Kenneth MacMillan’s contemporary ballet masterpiece, Mayerling, will be shown live from the Royal Opera House to the Vue in Rhyl and the Scala, Prestatyn.

Inspired by true events, the three-act ballet explores the deaths of Austro-Hungarian Crown Prince Rudolf and his teenage mistress, Mary Vetsera, in 1889.

Emotionally unstable and haunted by his obsession with death, Rudolf is forced to marry Princess Stephanie and soon afterwards, his former lover Marie Larisch introduces him to a new mistress, Mary Vetsera, a young woman who shares his morbid fascination.

This dark and intense ballet was created for The Royal Ballet in 1978 and is orchestrated and arranged by John Lanchbery using the music of Franz Liszt to sweep the story to its intense conclusion.

Mayerling screens live at both cinemas on Monday, October 15 at 7.15pm.

Tickets for the Scala showing are £15, available online from merlinprestatyn.admit-one.eu, and £19.54 for the Vue showing, available at myvue.com
