Scotty T’s win was not affected by “votes cast in error”, Celebrity Big Brother presenter Emma Willis has said.
On Thursday, Scotty T’s fellow Geordie Shore star Gaz Beadle faced a backlash when a phone number was posted on his Snapchat.
The number was said to be Gaz’s, but when fans called, it turned out to be the voting line for his co-star Scotty T.
Emma addressed the issue at the beginning of the series final on Friday, saying these votes would not count towards the overall total.
She told viewers: “You may be aware that yesterday Big Brother had to ask for the removal of a Snapchat post which may have led some people to unwittingly phone Scotty T’s phone line.
“So just to reassure you, phone results are verified and independently audited, and any votes confirmed to have been cast in error have been disqualified.”
A Celebrity Big Brother spokesperson said on Thursday: “We’ve been made aware of an individual’s post on Snapchat which may have led people to unwittingly call the phone line to vote for Scotty T. The Snapchat user has no connection with the Celebrity Big Brother production team or Channel 5.
“We contacted the poster in question to demand the post is removed. If any voters have inadvertently called the Celebrity Big Brother voting lines as a direct result of this post, we would ask them to get in contact with us before midnight tonight.”
Scotty T and Gaz have appeared together on Geordie Shore since Scotty T – real name Scott Timlin – joined the MTV show in 2012.
