A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a security guard who was stabbed at the home of supermodel Miranda Kerr.

Shaun Anthony Haywood, 29, allegedly slashed the guard’s face with a knife after breaking into the Australian model’s Los Angeles property to deliver a letter, prosecutors say.

Haywood, from Australia, was then shot by the armed security guard, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said.

Haywood, also known as Esra, is charged with wilful, deliberate and premeditated attempted murder, aggravated mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon, a knife. If convicted, he faces a possible life sentence.

Kerr – who was previously married to British actor Orlando Bloom and is currently engaged to Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel – was away from the property during the incident on October 14, police said.

Haywood is accused of grabbing the knife from the security guard after being confronted on Kerr’s Malibu property on the morning of October 14.

He was due to appear before the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday to face the charges.

Deputy District Attorney Elizabeth Dickinson is handling the case, which includes an allegation that Haywood inflicted “great bodily injury” on the victim.

Bail will be recommended to be set at more than one million dollars, the District Attorney’s Office said.

Following the incident, police said both men were taken to hospital, where the security guard was in stable condition and the intruder was described as critical with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident took place on Kerr’s property but not inside her house, which was empty at the time.

Kerr, 33, was married to Bloom from 2010 to 2013, and the pair have a five-year-old son, Flynn. The former Victoria’s Secret star is regularly listed among the world’s highest paid models.
