Is This The Way to Amarillo singer Tony Christie is headed to Croydon with decades-worth of hits up his sleeve.

The singer, who has been a presence on the charts since the mid-sixties will play Fairfield Halls on November 3.

Having played in bands as a youngster, Christie went solo with debut single Life’s Too Good to Waste in 1966 and hasn’t looked back since.

His major breakthrough came with the Neil Sedaka/Howard Greenfield hit Is This The Way To Amarillo, which reached number one around the world and, in 2005, propelled him to a new audience when it hit number one in the UK for seven weeks raising money for Comic Relief with the backing of Peter Kay.

His other hits include I Did What I Did For Maria, Don’t Go Down to Reno and Avenues and Alleyways.

This year, he collaborated with folk band Ranagri to record the Irish folk album The Great Irish Song Book.
