A film festival that showcases independent movies from around the world is back for its fifth year and the organisers are promising it will be the biggest one yet.

Ranging from horror and sci-fi to animation and music video, the 69 films of the Crystal Palace International Film Festival (CPIFF) have been selected so there is something to appeal to all ages.

CPIFF co-founder and director Roberta Galliniari said the event is growing in popularity and gives a great platform for independent filmmakers.

She said: “It has grown quite drastically, with our finale last year attracting 130 people.

“The quality of films is absolutely fantastic.

“We have had filmmakers from countries like Taiwan and the USA come over, offering a real mixture.”

The CPIFF is sponsored through Chapel Down Winery, St John the Evangelist Church and iMove Property, which Roberta says is vital for the festival’s operation.

Ms Galliniari added: “It is really important and we’re very appreciative of it.

“In addition, we have many supporters who are essential to the running of the festival due to the costs involved.”

While there are many film festivals in London, Miss Galliniari said the CPIFF is a unique experience.

She said: “We have local restaurants that provide a real food experience while for Halloween horror night entrants can come in fancy dress.

“It is great for families and makes the festival a real community affair.

Everything kicks off on November 1 before concluding two weeks later with the CPIFF awards ceremony.

Judges for the awards include Johnny Vegas, Peppa Pig creator Neville Astley and BAFTA award winning writer Brian Dooley.

And the ceremony will be presented by actor Tom Goodman-Hill, who plays Mr Grove in Mr Selfridge.
