Balham is set to become a foodie haven again this autumn when a week-long food festival returns.

Restaurants, bars, cafes and other businesses are all pulling together for a series of tastebud-tickling events during Balham Food Festival from September 25 to October 2.

The Balham Banquet in Hildreth Street and Bedford Hill Place will get the week started from 11am to 5pm on Sunday, September 25, with street food and delicacies being served up from around 50 stallholders as well as live music and family entertainment such as gingerbread making classes.

Throughout the seven day festival, events include in-store tastings, cookery demonstrations, festival menus and restaurant discounts.

Escape the Daily Grind, Whirly Wines, Thali and Pickles, Deelight Bakery, Cattlegrid, Pho Café, As Nature Intended and The Devonshire are among the cafes, pubs and eateries taking part.

For the first time this year, the organisers Essential Local have created a free Balham Food Trail to give visitors a guide to what’s on.

Essential Local’s Richard Chumbley said: “We were absolutely delighted with our relaunch of the Food Festival last year and the feedback was amazing.

“We've built on that experience – and that gained from co-organising the Ritherdon Road Street Party earlier this year – and made improvements such as having a professional stage with more music and entertainment, and introducing the Balham Food Trail.

“As a result, The Balham Banquet will be even more entertaining and the experiences of Festival Week even more enticing than last year.”
