Croydon welcomes rubbish performers

Their set my appear like its needs a good work over by the caretaker, but for the members of JuNk, a bit of rubbish goes a long way.

South England foursome Sam McGowan, Russell Brooks, Jay Osborne and Jake Briggs have taken the performing world by storm with an act that combines elements of percussion, dance, melody and comedic timing.

Using props such as empty glass bottles, upturned trash cans and metal piping, the team recreate classic pop tunes with unerring accuracy.

Such is their ability the four won talent show Don’t Stop Me Know, featured on Sky One, in April, and are now touring their latest show, And Then There Were Four.

Left behind by a weather torn apocalypse, four lonely 'not so bright' scavengers prowl the landscape far and wide in search of objects, rubbish and junk to help them survive and keep boredom at bay.

It is not until they stumble across a mysterious crate that they discover the different ways junk can be used to keep the only four humans left on earth (each other) entertained.

But not all is well as the story unfolds and takes a turn for the worse and leaves the four foragers in a not so safe situation. Not all is what it seems...

With elements of Stomp, barbershop harmonies and classic slapstick humour, this is a show for any age.

JuNk, Fairfield Halls, Park Lane, Croydon, October 5, 8pm.
