Nautical theme at this weekend's Walton heritage day

Deputy mayor of Elmbridge Councillor Mike Bennison will inspect the team from Shrapnel’s Battery
Walton Wharf will be given a nautical theme this weekend for the Walton heritage day celebrations.
A large variety of stalls will be open for business off Manor Road, with displays from the River Thames Society, the Sea Cadets and the RNLI.
The Richmond Venturer will arrive at about midday, suitably welcomed by the Cobham Brass Band, bringing with it a group of young carers on a trip from the converted barge’s base in Kingston.
Deputy mayor of Elmbridge Councillor Mike Bennison will inspect the team from Shrapnel’s Battery and will give demonstrations of artillery used by the Royal Artillery in the 1770s.
Children of all ages can also get involved in the celebrations with traditional Punch and Judy performances at 2pm and 3pm, and a balloon artist will be there all day to make a range of creations.
The face painting team will be on board the Richmond Venturer, so children can be transformed into pirates to help get them in the nautical spirit.
A team of Youngs Shire Horse and traditional Dray will return to the Wharf and will be providing trips around central Walton.
A Routemaster Bus will also visit the heritage day, showing the film Memories of Walton, meanwhile St Mary’s Church will open, with access to its baptism, marriage and burial registers.
The Walton Heritage Day is on Saturday, September 8, and will run from 11.30am to 4.30pm.
