With 2010 rapidly drawing to a close, the boys at Banquet Records take a look back at their favourite albums of the past 12 months.

Album of the year

Tokyo Police Club - Champ

Canadian indie-poppers Tokyo Police Club made their New Slang debut last month and went down a storm, so much so their second full-length album has been given the ultimate thumbs up and named Album of the Year. Stand out songs include the electronic pop of Bambi, the curiously titled opening duo Favourite Food and Favourite Colour and the urgently anthemic Wait Up (Boots Of Danger).

Other top offerings:

Mount Kimbie - Crooks & Lovers

This much-anticipated debut album from Mount Kimbie is electronic music at it's finest. Crooks & Lovers has opened a portal into the world of post-dubstep, electronic fusion soundscaping, making use of the freedom from any immediate dance floor demands.

Iron Chic - Not Like This

Punk label Yo Yo Records puts out another winner with this LP from Long Island natives Iron Chic. It's anthemic and melodic punk rock from a new line-up featuring members of Latterman, Small Arms Dealer, Capital, Get Bent and Jonesin'.

Off With Their Heads - In Desolation

The new album from the Minneapolis punk rockers is everything you expect from them. The fist pumping, sweat-drenched sing-a-longs are all still there.

Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History

Two Door Cinema Club have been getting rave reviews and this debut album does not disappoint. It's full of short, sharp and straight to the point catchy-as-hell indie pop with hints of everything from electro and rock to afro beats.

Gold Panda - Lucky Shiner

After years spent refining his unique sound, Gold Panda’s eagerly awaited debut album finally arrived. With electronic music entering a period of unprecedented success, this pits GP firmly at the forefront of a new wave of artists unafraid to challenge music's preconceptions.

Beach House - Teen Dream

The Baltimore indie rock duo released their third album at the start of the year and it gained them celebrity fans like Jay-Z and Beyonce. They tour the UK in March with Grizzly Bear so get your tickets sorted soon.

Scuba - Triangulation

The second album from Scuba races through dance styles mixing up dubstep, garage, techno and electronica. It's the second album in the list from Hotflush Recordings, who also look after Mount Kimbie.

Four Tet - There is Love in You

Released back in January, There is Love in You is Putney-born Kieran Hebden's, aka Four Tet's, first full length offering in almost four years and proves he's still got it and is one of the most interesting electro acts about.

Caribou - Swim

Canadian Dan Snaith followed up the Polaris Prize winning Andorra with this, his third album under the Caribou name. Swirling, atmospheric worlds meet stripped and purified beats with dreamy vocals and it is epic stuff to say the least.

Frightened Rabbit - Winter of Mixed Drinks

Everything this Glaswegian four-piece have released has been folk rock brilliance with songwriting of the highest order and this new offering is no exception. Single Swim Until You Can't See Land earned them their first play on Zane Lowe's show.

Belle and Sebastian - Write About Love

The Scottish band reconvened in February and quickly put together Write About Love. Drawing as ever on their top songwriting strengths, there are guest performances from singers Sarah Martin and Norah Jones. Even actress Carey Mulligan features.
