Fans of the BBC’s seminal Doctor Who series will be delighted to hear that an adventure game has been confirmed for release later this year.
Featuring Matt Smith’s incarnation of the Doctor and the feisty red headed assistant, Amy Pond (as portrayed by Karen Gillan), the game will be available to download from the BBC’s website.
Billed as four interactive episode’s and developed by Sumo Digital, the stories and scripts are written by a variety of talent, including Phil Ford (co-writer of the Doctor Who episode “Waters of Mars”) and James Moran (Torchwood’s “Children of Earth” and the feature film “Severance”).
Many of the team involved in the current TV series are also involved, including Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, who have been digitally recreated and have provided full voice-overs. Murray Gold will also be providing the music for the game.
“Children don’t just watch Doctor Who – they join in. They make up games, invent their monsters, create their own stories,” said Steven Moffat, Head Writer and Executive Producer.
“Now, there’s something else – now they can be the Doctor in brand new episodes.”
Not much is known about the plot at present, nor the titles, but what is clear is that the interactive episodes will form part of the overall Doctor Who canon and will feature villains both old and new.
“There aren’t 13 episodes of Doctor Who this year,” said Piers Wenger, Head of Drama, BBC Wales and Executive Producer, Doctor Who. “There are 17 – four of which are interactive. Everything you see and experience within the game is part of the Doctor Who universe: we’ll be taking you to places you’ve only ever dreamed about seeing – including locations impossible to create on television.”
It has been confirmed that the game will be released on both PC and Mac platforms and will be available for download in June 2010.
