Su-Elise Nash was once part of the successful R&B group Mis-Teeq, touring the world with a string of hits in the early noughties Now she is going back to her roots and opening a stage school for aspiring performers in her home town of Dulwich.

Mis-Teeq parted ways in 2005 and while former band mate Alesha Dixon began work on a solo album and later made her move to BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, Nash decided to go back to school and qualify as a dance teacher.

"It was always my dream to open a dance or performing arts school," she says.

"I was studying business before I joined Mis-Teeq but then the band became such a massive success that I ended up touring the world with them instead - although that was good too of course!

"I could have opened a school just on the strength of having been in Mis-Teeq, but I think it's important to be qualified.

"It was hard because I'd been out of education for a long time, and doing pointe work at age 27 definitely isn't my idea of fun, but I wanted to be as qualified as the next teacher out there.

"My biggest influences when I was at school were my dancing and singing teachers and I hope that I can influence someone else the way I was influenced.

"I want to make a difference to people's lives, it's what drives me as an artist.

"I'm really excited about the new school because Dulwich is my home town and it feels great to be doing something for my local community."

As well as Saturday classes in singing, dancing and drama, Nash plans to offer intensive summer courses and masterclass workshops led by top UK artists and choreographers.

Fans of Strictly Come Dancing may also be pleased to hear that Dixon will be cutting the ribbon at the school's opening on the October 31.
