Comic David Walliams has been left heartbroken by the death of his dad.

The Little Britain star's dad Peter Williams, who lived with his wife Kathleen in Banstead, lost his battle with liver cancer before Christmas.

The former London Transport worker was diagnosed with the disease last September.

David is understood to have been spending his spare time supporting his bereaved mum.

The 36-year-old had been due to film an American version of hit comedy show Little Britain but writers' strikes in the US have meant he could spend more time with his family.

A pal told The Sun: "David and his sister Julie are devastated - as are all the family. But they have been a rock for Kathleen. It was their first Christmas without Peter, but they are a loving family and were all together."

My mum just found out 2 weeks ago she has liver disease but luckily the doctors found it before it turned into cancer (called NASH, non-alcholic liver disease, generally due to yo-yo dieting and being average to overweight). A lot of adults in their 50's and 60's have this and don't show any symptoms until it is too late. (My mum found out during a MRI for gall bladder disease). She found out yesterday she can reduce her fatty liver by loosing weight slowly (doctor recommended about 1-2 stone per year) and thus preventing cirrhosis. Her gall bladder sugery is Thursday and she can start exercising after she recovers from that. My heart goes out to David and his family, this would come as such a shock for them. If you know anyone over 50 who doesn't get check ups regularly, encourage them to do so even if they are seemingly fit, and they also should ask their doctor to check for fatty liver.
